Effect of Nanomaterials in the environment
#2
Informative blog post and helpful for the advances research in nanotechnology. Here,I am sharing few information related to this topic:
Use of Nanomaterials will lead to an increase in environmental exposure.Nanoscience and it's emerging technologies are expected to bring a fundamental change in manufacturing in the next few years and have large impact on Life Science including diagnostics and production of biomaterials. The behavior of nanomaterials in the environment depends on where they are released as on the materials themselves.
Increase in atmospheric particulate concentration lead to short term increases in morbidity and mortality.Unintentionally produced Nanoparticles in the atmosphere are defined as primary and secondary particles.
1)Primary particles are emitted directly from sources, which might be natural or anthropogenic.
2) Secondary particle are formed in the atmosphere by gas to particle conversion.Secondary particle usually very small, and can then grow by condensation of involatile materials.

Intentional production of nanoparticles:
It is expected that the emission of manufactured nanoparticles and nanofibers will add to the load of primary UFPs in the atmosphere. For most manufactured NP toxicity data are not available. Most of the experimental, toxicological work on NP has been generated with the small set of bulk nanoparticles like carbon black, iron oxide etc. These NP are consider as nuisance dusts until it was observed that upon prolonged exposure in rats inflammation and lung tumors can occur.
