Any relations between cell differentiation and cell division? I do not know whether the cells division is needed when comes to cell differentiation. Anyone knows? Thanks.

Hello Stevencd,
In order to find that answer , you need to research the topic on google. It will tell you those Answers. Well, I mean type this question there: what are the relationships between cell differentiation and cell division ?

Hi Steven,

To understand the difference let's start from the beginning of our life..

When fertilization takes place (i.e a sperm meets an egg), it is a union of two haploid cells. The resultant diploid cell has all the information to become an embryo (and a baby /fully grown human in later stages), but it first starts with division (because a single cell can't just grow/enlarge itself to become a multifunction and multi-morphic system i.e human).

So, the fertilized egg starts dividing and it divides until various layers of cells have been created (each layer taking a different route of division and function). This adoption of different route of function and division is differentiation. Some layer would develop into nervous system, while other into circulatory or excretory system etc. Differentiation therefore decides the fate of the newly formed cells as to what system they will create or join in future.

Division is merely the multiplication of the cells which helps in reaching the required population to create a system. Here system can be a tissue or an organ.

Hope it helps in clearing your doubt.
