Hi Sunil bhaiya,

IIT Delhi is asking for a minimum gate score of 550 for GEN category in biosciences. I have only score of 433, so i guess I m not able to apply in IIT Delhi...

will I able to receive interview call from any other IITS apart from delhi...kanpur...I also donot have any idea about IIT HYD, IIT KGP, IIT G, IIT BHU

or any other good govt central universities?..I am totally directionless right now..what should i do?

Hello Trinanjan,

You shouldn't get demotivated by the IITD cut-off. It often remains high only (at my time, it was 650, and later also it was near 600). Best part is that IIT Bombay has kept the cut-off very low this year, which has a history of keeping it competitive to IITD.

You should remain hopefull about IIT Hyderabad, Guwahati, University of Hyderabad and BHU (their cut-offs shouldn't soar high). Kgp often keeps it above 95 percentile as cut-off, but on an optimistic point of view, let's hope for the best.

Do consider IISERs and NCCS.

And, another important point: Keep an eye on the vacant seats in IIT Madras (after admissions). They offer on-spot admission as well for the vacant seats.

Do consider other departments of various IITs as well. Their cut-offs often are very low for inter-disciplinary students.

Hope it helps

Best wishes

Sunil

Hello SUnil bhaiya,

I am really sorry for bothering you so much, and I really appreciate that you are helping with my each and every query.

I just want to know what is number of candidates that are provided for PhD in IITs?

I heard that each IIT maximum takes 4 students to enroll into PhD program, if that is true then all the IITs will take a maximum no. of 30-35 candidates..

so what about rest of us?

Trinanjan

I qualified GATE 2015 with GATE score 433 and AIR 657.
I have done my BE in Biomedical with an aggregate of 80.17% and had the opportunity to complete my final year engineering project from IIT Bombay as an external student
I also have one year work experience in TCS.
Please suggest what chances I have for admission to IITs and NITs for an Mtech

Thanks

Looking at your GATE score and your experience, I believe you should easily get IITB/IITK/IITM. Focus hard on IITB (GATE score cut-off for general category being 400). Once you get into IITB, your career will definitely rise high. IIT Hyderabad/University of Hyderabad are both good options. Go for top 3 NITs only, other NITs don't have good placement records for M.Techs.

And, apply at AcSIR for PhD as well (only if you are interested in pursuing PhD).

Your percentile is aboave 90? Why don't you try at NUS/DAAD?

Hope it helps

Best wishes

Sunil

Dear Sunil,

Thank you so much for your encouragement!

Could you also shed some light on the written test/interview procedures for IITB/IITK/IITM and IITR?
I am aware the written test for IITB for Biomedical engineers includes 12th CBSE Math and Physiology syllabus.
What about the others?

Hello Trinanjan,

Let's see it in this way:Top 7 IITs offer more than 40 seats for PhD, but all you need is "1" seat.

If you'll look at the empty portion of the glass, you might never find time to enjoy the filled portion. There were over 8000 students in GATE, still you managed to be ahead of over 7500 students. Isn't that great?

Then, IITs are not the end of the road. You have DU, Indian Oil, IISERs, University of Pune, University of Hyderabad, CSIO (and other CSIR labs through AcSIR), IIITs and many more.

Hope it helps.

Best wishes

Hi Pragovil,

I hope this http://www.biotechnologyforums.com/threa...ml#pid9049 serves your query. And, you may refer this http://www.biotechnologyforums.com/thread-6861.html as well.

In case there is any other query too, do let me know.

Hi sir,
I am a general category candidate and have qualified IIT-JAM 2015 Biotechnology with AIR 67 (98th percentile). Since there are only about 41 total seats for MSc Biotech in IIT Bombay and IIT Roorkee..is my rank good enough to get me admitted to these IITs?

Hello Stuti,

Yes, your Rank is great and you should be confident. You should have made it to the merit list. As mentioned in the brochure, "The number of candidates included in the 'All India Merit List' will depend on the total number of seats available in a given subject. These candidates (henceforth called Qualified Candidates) are eligible to apply for admission to any of the corresponding academic programmes available at IISc and IITs".

In my view, you are well within the merit list and can apply for all IITs once the application lines are open in April.

Hope it helps

All the best!

Sunil
