We take antibiotic to treat our infections and diseases. The origins of these antibiotics are microorganism itself. Apart from this, there are many naturally occuring antibiotics and similar qualities exhibited by certain group of foods and vegetations. These natural antibiotics includes but not limited to garlic, onion, honey, Australian tea tree oil, Fruits containing vitamin c, vegetables rich in vitamin c, fermented food, eucalyptus, goldenseal, herbs such as All spice, Oregano, Thyme,Cumin,Cinnamon, Tarragon, Cloves, Bay leaf, Chili peppers etc.
Garlic is used as antibiotics since ancient times. Garlic used in diet reduces cholesterol, triglycerides and helps to maintain blood pressure. Garlic also helps thin the blood and acts as decongestant and expectorant. In ancient time garlic was used to treat dysentery and typhus. Regular intake of garlic reduces the risk of hypertension, stroke, tumors and other forms of cancers. Onion is used as analgesia, anti-inflammatory substances. Onion also increases circulation, and used in treatment of common cold and flu.
Honey has been used from ancient time for wound infection and is very effective against antibiotics resistant strains. Honey is effective against broad range of microorganism including gram positive and gram negative. The oil of Australian tea tree has fragrant and is a small evergreen tree. This oil is effective in treating fingernail fungal infection and sores.
The fruits like Kiwi, Strawberries, honeydew melon, mangoes, watermelon and organs are rich in vitamin c and they all help in eliminating infections from bacteria by improving immunity. This vital amine is important for growth and development and serves in various forms of skin repair.
Eucalyptus is a powerful decongestant and is easy to recognize by its strong odor. It is very crisp. Eucalyptus kills certain bacteria, fungus and also viruses. Gold-seal is a powerful and very potent stimulant of immune system. They restrict colonization of streptococci bacteria in humans.
Antibiotics are also used as a preventative medicine in patients with other types of diseases. For example, some antibiotics may be used in cancer patients. Cancer itself does not necessarily shut off the immune system, as the original poster stated. Rather, the treatments used for cancer, chemotherapy and radiation, target rapidly multiplying cells, including those involved in fighting infections. These therapies leave the patient more susceptible to infection.
As with all medications, it is important to use antibiotics only as prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner. Overuse and improper use of antibiotics can cause many problems, including the development of resistant populations. Because antibiotics have been used improperly, many drug-resistant strains are developing. For example, tuberculosis is one of the leading causes of death to infectious disease world-wide. Tuberculosis is caused by the bacterium M. tuberculosis. This bacterium is very difficult to treat, and requires extremely long treatment with antibiotics, often months or more. In areas where it is difficult to get treatments, patients only take the antibiotics for a short time. The bacteria are not all killed off, and the surviving bacteria can develop resistance to the antibiotic. As they multiply, they become the predominant strain of bacteria in the host. These resistant bacteria can then go on to infect other people. Now, there are even strains of M. tuberculsosi that are resistant to all available antibiotics. Properly using antibiotics in patients with susceptible strains is necessary to help minimize the spread of this very dangerous pathogen.
Before bacteria can multiply and cause symptoms, the body's immune system can usually destroy them. We have special white blood cells that attack harmful bacteria. Even if symptoms do occur, our immune system can usually cope and fight off the infection. There are occasions, however, when it is all too much and some help is needed.....from antibiotics.

Although over the decades antibiotic have been used in large quantities, the existence of these substances in the environment has gained little notice. A more complex investigation of antibiotic substances has been undertaken only in recent years, so as to assess the environmental risks they may pose. It was found that the concentrations of antibiotics measured in hospital effluents, municipal sewage, surface and ground water, influents and effluents of STPs, are mostly in the same range, respectively.
Although an increasing number of investigations covering input, fate, occurrence and effect of antibiotics have been published over the last decades, but, despite the numerous studies performed there is still a lack of proper understanding and knowledge about the existence and effects of antibiotic agents in the aquatic environment. Therefore, extensive and thorough research is needed to explore certain significant issues and questions related to these substances that are still open and must be properly handled in the future for a better understanding of the risk associated and behavior of antibiotics in the environment. I hope this reply addresses the present state of knowledge relating to the occurrence and effects of antibiotics in the aquatic environment.
Bacteriophages, which infect bacteria are found as part of our gastrointestinal microbiota, for example, as they infect the bacteria in our gut. These bacteriophages express antibiotic resistance genes which are thought to be protective in maintenance of gut health as they help protect the ‘good’ bacteria against the harmful effects of naturally occurring antibiotics. This expression of antibiotic-resistance genes has been a feature of bacteriophages since long before antibiotics were used therapeutically. For example, antibiotic-resistance genes have been identified in bacteriophages found in fossilised faecal samples dating from the 14th century; the presence of these bacteriophages in coprolites (fossilised faecal samples) is indicative that they would have been present in the gastrointestinal tract. Many of the bacteriophage sequences identified were related to phages that we know currently infect bacteria commonly identified in stools, including both harmless, helpful and pathogenic bacteria. They differ taxonomically from bacteriophages identified in modern faecal samples but functionally their role in antibiotic resistance has been conserved. However, such bacteriophages with antibiotic resistance genes also infect pathogenic bacteria, which would contribute to their resistance to antibiotics, as well as these bacteria evolving their own direct antibiotic resistance mechanisms faster than scientists can develop new antibiotics. Over-prescription of antibiotics over time, for example in cases of viral infections, has contributed to the growing public health crisis of multidrug resistant ‘superbugs’. Multi-drug resistant bacteria, such as extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)–producing Enterobacteriaceae, third-generation cephalosporin-resistant (G3CR) Enterobacteriaceae and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus are now a serious international public health threat. Various research avenues are being explored in an effort to win the battle of antibiotic resistance, for example developing use of uncultured bacteria, which comprise approximately 99% of all bacterial species in external environments, as a source of antibiotics. An example of this was published last week in the journal Nature, in which a new antibiotic called teixobactin, derived from growth of uncultured bacteria, is described. Teixobactin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis and when tested on mutant Staphylococcus aureus or Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains, no resistant mutants were identified.
