Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your encouraging words. According to your suggestion I am thinking of the possibility of my son applying in NUS for MS in Chemical Engineering by Research Work, which is a M.Eng degree, but not very much sure whether NUS requires any research paper published by the candidate along with the application. Because, as of now, there is no such research paper my son has published. And can you please tell me, other than scholarship what benefit he will get over the Course Work based program.

Hello Mam,
Research publication is not at all an obligation, though it does add an advantage to the profile. What your son can do meanwhile is that he can attend a couple of workshops/ conferences to strengthen his candidature. 
Research based programs are different in the sense that a student spends a majority of time/ semesters in the degree course on a Research Project, rather than on subjects/ courses. So, one gets hands on some real world problem rather than just pondering over them in books for most of the time.
Your son has  nice profile. Try to get some nice LORs . He should be able to crack the admission.
