Hello Vinaya,
You will get ample opportunities during your degree program in (any) university you go for, to indulge in research projects (a part of curriculum). The only thing that actually decides the fate of your career (apart from the reputation of the college) is "your level of contention, practiveness and dedication". Ideally, during summer holidays from the University, you should ensure that you have joined a "research centre/company/institute" as an intern. During 2nd year, a lot of reputed institutes (like IITs) offer selection based internship opportunities to students of other institutes/universities, you should be alert and should apply for those opportunities in time.
In the final year, a student is supposed to go for a Major Project (6 months dedicated) in a company/institute/research centre of their choice. That project greatly defines your career ahead.
Once you are done with your Undergraduate Degree, you should opt for a research oriented Masters program like MS(Research) in India/abroad and then PhD to finally enter the leadership role(s) of a researcher in the industry.
There is a long way ahead and the best part is that you are alert and curious well in advance.
All the best!
If there is any other query, do let me know
Best wishes
Sunil
