Tips on organizing frozen cells

Not sure about the norm, but I feel that a simple script (in shell/perl) or a c-code should automate most of the process. May I have a template of the log (to see if I can try some automation for it). And what are the major roadblocks (or difficulties) you feel while maintaining the log?
