Tips for Writing a Research Paper
#1
Covering everything requisite of publishing a journal in a single comment might not be possible, but following may be taken as a guideline:

a) Recognize your problem statement. What do you wish to work on? For example, "I wish to work on plants mediated bioremediation."

b) Once you recognize your problem, find out the current state of art in this domain i.e go for literature survey : Download and read thoroughly the research papers published in the selected domain. Starting with a very recently published review paper is the best strategy, it will give you an idea of the overall state of art till date (provided the review paper is a good one!).

c) While you go through the literature, you should be able to identify a specific problem to explore in the selected domain. Like, "Affect of increasing temperatures on the bioremediating traits of a given plant". Identifying a specific problem is a very crucial decision, as it should not be identical to the already existing research. "Re-inventing the wheel is both a waste of time and contribution to research". You should add something of value to the scientific community.

d) Next step is to carry out your research using good laboratory practices. A good journal expects the researcher to have used standard equipment and protocols. Literature will guide you towards best protocols and equipment too. Research needs to be well designed:
  • Controls and Subjects should be well defined
  • Experiment timelines should be clearly defined
  • Reproducibility of results should be established
e) Draft a Manuscript once your research is over. A standard Manuscript is expected to have Introduction (from Literature and your opinions), Methods (equipment and protocols you followed), Results (well compiled results using graphs/plots/tables/figures), Discussion, Conclusion and References. An Abstract is expected at the beginning of your manuscript, but that should only be written once you have completed your entire manuscript (as the Abstract is an Overview of your Research).

f) Next identify a suitable journal for publishing your research. Make a copy of your manuscript and format it according to the structure (font styles, paragraph format etc) specified by the journal. Each journal has its own style of "Bibliography or References", which can be designed using plugins like ZOTERO.

g) Ensure that you shouldn't submit the same research to more than one journal. Wait for the response of the first journal before submitting it to any other.

h) Submitting to conferences often ease the task a bit. You can start with that too!

Ideally, if your are yet to get into the experimental stage in your career, then best way to start with a journal publication is "Writing a Review Paper!"

A review paper is basically a summary of the current state of art for a particular problem statement or field of study. One should go through all published (research based) papers in that field and then make a review paper out of it. This will kick-start your publishing aspirations and also make you adept to the writing skills for a journal publication.

All the Best!
