Hello Pavithra,

If your interests lie in the above mentioned fields then ideally you should strengthen your experience (through Projects/ Internships) in the same field(s) starting from B.Tech itself. If somehow, you couldn't do any project related to genetic engineering/ cell biology; then pursuing Masters (with a project related to the fields) will be an ideal push to the career in the direction you are looking forward to.

I must say that both the fields are very broad and are essentially more "Research" oriented; than being "business oriented (there is an indirect business line through ground breaking inventions/ discoveries in the corporate R&D though)".

So what you should be doing next?

Aim for a reputed college for Masters. Get the campus placement in likes of Biocon/ Wockhardt/ Pfizer (for their R&D units). Or after masters from a good institute you will have ample opportunities to try for a project/ research associate in a good CSIR lab. Or; PhD from top tier universities of the world (including India) can be an option if your appetite for more academic research persists.

or Aim for a lab that is actively (and actually) working in areas related to Genetic Engineering/ Cell Biology; and get a project position there (freshers find it hard to crack such positions without a reference though. But if you have one, seek the same. Also, sometimes they give notifications for walkins, and great interview can put you through as well. But that happens "sometimes" only.

Hope it helps
