Flumist Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine from MedImmune
MedImmune takes its pride to be the first in launching Flumist Quadrivalent, a vaccine for influenza and have successfully shipped the vaccine to US on 26th July 2013 making it available with all the influenza vaccine distributors and thus ensured their commitment to protect the health of the people from influenza infection during 2013-2014.
Salient Features of the Vaccine
Prick free. Yes it is the first vaccine available in the form of Nasal spray against influenza.
Contains two strains of Influenza A and two strains of Influenza B thus replaces the existing trivalent vaccine ( two strains of Influenza A and a single strain of Influenza B).
FDA approved.
Covered under the majority of the insurance plans supporting immunization.
Administration
The route of entry of the influenza virus is through the nose and this vaccination is administered as a nasal spray.

Sore throat
Eligible group for Vaccination
2 years old to 49 years old
Should not be allergic to egg and other compounds like gentamycin, gelatin and arginin.
Not Eligible for Vaccination
The group under 2 years – 17 years old who are on support of aspirin should not get vaccinated
People who had developed complications in their earlier influenza vaccination
Children under 5 years of age with wheezing
People with poor immune system
Pregnant women and breast feeding women
People with ailments related to kidneys, heart and lungs
People suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome.
People who are on dosages of compounds like Tamiflu, Relenza , amantadine and rimantadine
Important rule
The vaccinated individual falling under the group of children and adolescent should stay away from aspirin for four long weeks and should consider taking advise from his or her health care provider after 4 weeks in case of necessity to take aspirin.
